Winter Stay on "Kalimera"
Due to its location and facilities, Camperstop 'Kalimera' is well-suited for a winter stay. For non-winterized motorhomes, vans, etc., staying here is absolutely no problem due to the weather conditions in Lygourio and our infrastructure.
The Climate:
Even in ancient times, people were aware of the special climate of the Lygourio/Epidavros region and established the ancient healing sanctuary, the 'Asklepion,' with its world-famous 'Theater of Epidavros.' The 'mother of all healing sites' was successfully operated for over 1000 years and served as a model for many other healing sites in Greece. The dry healing climate is still present. Due to the dryness, there are almost no mosquitoes, making the stay and nights here very pleasant. The uniqueness of the climate lies in the dry air and the absence of insects. The temperatures are often 2-3 degrees cooler than on the coast and drop to about 20 degrees even in midsummer at night, allowing for a pleasant sleep... the 'healing sleep of Asclepius?' ... Who knows...?
Until well into January, the temperatures are 'autumn-like to pleasant'... 'motorcycle weather' you could say, the trees have lost their leaves, but the 'sea of olive trees' and the land are green.
The actual 'winter' is from the end of January to early March, often the sun shines, and then daytime temperatures reach 12-14 degrees... barbecue weather. Sometimes it is rainy, cool, and cloudy for 2-3 days, and then sunny again, a mix of weather as throughout the Peloponnese. There is no frost during the day, and if it does occur, then only a few nights and for a few hours.
February is 'core winter', the weather is sometimes like this and sometimes like that, a mix of sun, clouds, rain, and wind. Even 'northerners' should bring a warm jacket and a sweater, but jeans and sneakers are still sufficient. Nature is green, the first flowers are coming out, and the almond blossoms begin. In short.....even a 'not winter-proof' motorhome or van is suitable for winter in Lygourio.
Our infrastructure:
Our sanitation facilities are clean and dry and we provide hot water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of whether the sun is shining or not.
Our water is drinking water supplied and tested by the municipality.
Our ground is clean and designed for wet winter days and 'days with heavy rain.' The floor drains quickly, without mud and without plant or grass debris. Here, you don’t need rubber boots; your shoes stay clean.
And last but not least... a rain- and wind-protected 'Saloni' is available as an 'all-weather lounge,' ideal for weather-protected relaxation to 'catch' the winter sun or have a 'winter BBQ.'
Our power supply is modern and strong, with 16 A available at each socket. Our electricity price is 'local' and transparent, your electricity consumption is accessible to you at any time and can be turned on and off, you only pay for what you consume.
In short, if you want to spend a mild, healthy winter with a well-maintained infrastructure, you've come to the right place.
The municipal capital, Lygourio
First of all...the most important thing...Lygourio is "alive," not only in summer but also in winter. It's not a tourist town that's only open "in season" and "closes" in winter. It's a small, lively, well-structured, and exemplary clean municipal capital with friendly and helpful people.
Here, even in winter, you'll find everything you need within walking distance...good bakeries, chic cafeterias, well-stocked supermarkets, farmer's market, quaint taverns, restaurants, a small health center, a veterinarian, and well-stocked pharmacies...pure Greece.
In the surrounding area, there are many small and large attractions to explore on foot, by bike, or scooter. The beaches at Old Epidavros are 15 km away, and by scooter, you'll be in the water in a quarter of an hour...have fun.
